Our Story

Sweet Home Pet Spa and Resort is a dog-only wellness center built on education, observation, and intentional care. Our work is rooted in understanding behavior, nervous systems, and how dogs experience the world — not in rushing services or maximizing volume.

Our team is made up of highly trained groomers and pet care professionals who are skilled in fear-free, consent-based handling and structured interaction. We focus on low-stress grooming, regulated daycare, and boarding that prioritizes emotional safety, predictability, and individual needs.

Every dog in our care is evaluated as an individual. We adjust pace, expectations, and interaction based on behavior, thresholds, and comfort — because wellbeing comes before convenience.

Sweet Home was founded by a veterinary technician and behavior specialist with over 30 years of experience and a clear vision: dogs deserve better than traditional, high-stress pet care environments. This facility exists to provide a calmer, safer, and more thoughtful alternative — where dogs come before the dollar.

We also support local shelters and rescues by providing grooming and behavior support to help dogs feel more comfortable, confident, and ready for adoption.

Mandy Robinson

Co-owner and Founder

Mandy Robinson is the founder of Sweet Home Pet Spa and Resort and brings over 30 years of hands-on experience in animal care, behavior, and welfare. Her background spans veterinary medicine, grooming, kennel management, animal control collaboration, and more than 16 years working directly in animal rescue.

Mandy earned her Veterinary Assistant Certification and later became a Licensed Veterinary Technician, allowing her to work in both clinical and rescue environments. Throughout her career, she has managed grooming salons, led kennel operations, and worked closely with veterinarians, shelter staff, and rescue organizations to support animals with a wide range of behavioral and medical needs.

Her approach is grounded in observation, education, and respect for the animal in front of her. Mandy believes that behavior is communication, that force has no place in ethical care, and that dogs deserve environments that support regulation, safety, and trust.

Sweet Home was created as a direct response to what she saw missing in traditional pet care settings — time, skill, and intention. This work has never been just a job. It is a lifelong commitment to doing better by dogs, every single day.

Jayla Woods

Co-owner

Jayla is co-owner of Sweet Home Pet Spa and Resort and brings a strong background in human healthcare, patient advocacy, and compassionate support into canine wellness care. Her early experiences caring for a disabled family member and working in medical settings shaped her deep respect for vulnerability, trust, and the responsibility that comes with caring for others.

She earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification while still in high school and spent several years working directly with patients before continuing her career as a Medical Assistant. These roles gave her a strong foundation in observation, emotional awareness, and calm, intentional care — skills that translate directly into working with dogs.

After moving to Alabama, Jayla began volunteering and supporting local animal shelters, where she found her calling in animal care. Her approach is centered on empathy, patience, and creating environments where dogs feel safe, understood, and supported.

At Sweet Home, Jayla is dedicated to ensuring that every dog and every family feels confident, welcomed, and respected. Her work reflects the belief that care should be thoughtful, regulated, and rooted in trust — for both animals and the people who love them.

Vicky Woods

Spa Director

Vicky Woods is the Spa Director at Sweet Home Pet Spa and Resort and brings a hands-on, deeply intuitive approach to canine care. Her background includes experience in veterinary medicine and animal shelter work, where she developed a strong ability to work with animals of all temperaments, needs, and personalities.

Growing up in Florida, Vicky worked closely with shelter animals and gained practical experience supporting dogs with a wide range of behavioral and emotional quirks. Her work is grounded in patience, adaptability, and reading each animal as an individual rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.

As a rescue advocate and pet parent to two senior rescue dogs, Vicky brings empathy, calm confidence, and real-world understanding into every interaction. She is committed to providing thoughtful, fear-free spa care that supports both comfort and wellbeing — even on a dog’s hardest days.
